KAPPA DELTA'S STANDARDS
Kappa Delta members must be law-abiding citizens and uphold all federal, state and local laws. There shall be no possession
or use of any intoxicating liquors, alcoholic beverages, or illegal psychotropic and/or psychedelic products in the Chapter
House or on the property. The Chapter shall abide by all house rules as established by the National Council of Kappa
Delta, the University, the Chapter and the House Corporation. Violation
and/or failure to live up to Kappa Delta’s National House Rules will result in National Probation and/or Expulsion for
the member and termination of the pledge.

HOUSE
HOURS
· The house is locked at all times. Check to see that the door locks behind you. Keep your house key with you at all times and do not loan it out.
· The
house opens for visitors from 9:00a.m. to 12:00 midnight. No overnight guests
are allowed without prior written approval of House Director.
· All male visitors must be accompanied by a Kappa Delta member while on the premises. No male visitors are ever allowed in any bedroom or in any part on the second floor
-including the Chapter Room.
SAFETY
& SECURITY
- Walkways, hallways,
stairways and fire exits must be clear and uncluttered at all times.
- Do not stand on tables
and chairs. There is a stepladder available in the TV room. No climbing on balconies
or roof tops (per City ordinance);
- No smoking in any
part of the house or burning of candles and/or incense.
- No cooking in bedrooms/closets
or use of electrical appliances in bedrooms including refrigerators.
- Fire safety - escape
maps are in each bedroom showing a safe way to exit in case of emergency; smoke alarms are located throughout the house, as
well as fire extinguishers.
- Emergency
escape ladders are located in the President's Room, Old 3. Girl Room; Old 2 Girl Room, West Wing Room, 4 Girl Split Room and
New 3 Girl Room; Break away security bars are on the Sundeck Room windows (pull lever to release).
- In case of an evacuation
the prearranged rendezvous point is the Greek Circle. If the Greek Circle is
impacted, the second prearranged rendezvous point is the church parking lot on Montezuma Road.
- Identify the person
before opening the door, and ask for identification card from anyone claiming to be a service person; after identifying person
and you are comfortable admitting him or her, do not leave person unattended.
- Carry your house key with you at all times. Keys are for use by Beta Rho Kappa Delta’s only. Under
NO circumstance shall you loan key to anyone. If key is lost, member will pay
lost key charge.
- KD
property to be locked on a 24-hour basis (per insurance). Do NOT prop doors open.
- Do
NOT use French Doors without permission from House Director. These doors are
not to be used for regular access to/from the chapter house. Please use front
or side doors.
KITCHEN
- The Kitchen is locked
every night and at other times deemed necessary by the House Director or House Corporation due to Health Department rules.
Only House Corporation employees allowed in kitchen.
- No bare feet are
allowed in the dining room due to possible injury.
- You will
be expected to clean your plates into the garbage can provided.
- No food or supplies
are to be USED, LENT or REMOVED from the house by collegiate, alumnae, visitors, busboys, staff etc.
MEALS
· Live-in residents receive
16 meals per week: 9 prepared meals, and 7 self-serve meals. Lunch and dinner are prepared and served in the dining room Monday – Thursday; brunch
is prepared on Friday. Self-serve breakfast items are available 7 days per week. Meal times are:
- Lunch/Brunch: 11am - 1pm (no late plates are available)
- Dinner: Dinner seating is promptly at 5:30pm, except for formal Monday's which is 5:00pm. Late plates are only available to students in class or work. Students
must sign up for late plates in advance, and a valid class/work schedule must be presented.
- Town girls on financial good standing receive Monday Night Dinner at the chapter house free of charge.
For any other meals, members and guests are required to sign up in advance. Sign
up sheets are located in the back hall. Meals are $5.00 and must be paid in advance
to the House Director. A receipt will be provided.
- No refunds for meals missed.
DINING ROOM AND TV ROOM
- Clean
up after yourself and your guests. Pick up papers, dishes, shoes, glasses and any other belongings
- Put
away milk, cereal, condiments and other foods brought into dining room.
- Personal food items requiring refrigeration are to be stored
in the refrigerator adjacent to the soda machine; discard food and leftovers to eliminate odors.
- Turn
off TV and lights when you leave the TV room.
- Do not hook up other
equipment (DVD players, etc.) to the TV. Should you need assistance with the
existing equipment, please call Dean Beckman at 858-273-7002.
- After
11:00 p.m. the dining room is for quiet study, all other activities should be moved to the TV room.
- Limit preparation
of banners and signs to rear porch area; use a cardboard backing when preparing banners and signs to prevent spills or staining;
use water based inks whenever possible.
LIVING ROOM
- This is a formal living room and is to remain clean and orderly at all times
- No eating or drinking in the living room
- No shoes, bare feet, puking or sleeping on sofas
- After
11:00 p.m., room used for quiet study only; all other activities be held in the TV room.
- Do NOT use French Doors without permission from House Director.
CHAPTER
ROOM
- This
room is to remain quiet at all times. Clean up after yourself. Pick up papers, dishes, shoes, glasses and any other belongings.
- Escorted
male visitors will be allow in the Chapter Room for study hours only with prior approval from the
House Director.
- Do NOT
stomp or dance in the Chapter Room, as the ceiling fans and lights below become unstable.
PARKING
- Authorized
parking only. Priority points and bylaws determine parking at the beginning of
each semester. Collegiate will be fined or towed for parking/blocking in another's assigned parking space; the Chapter president
and House Director are authorized to have your vehicle towed.
- Please
respect the Cook and the House Director’s parking spots.
GENERAL INFORMATION
- No one is EVER allowed to paint or alter the physical
appearance of the chapter house walls, carpet, furnishings or any part of the structure.
- No one shall remove, borrow, loan or change any furniture,
decoration, kitchenware and etc. from the property. When extras are needed for
special occasions, the Chapter shall rent additional items for that occasion.
- The Chapter shall neither borrow, loan or utilize
any of the paper products which are used on the weekend when there are no hashers. When extras are needed for special occasions,
the Chapter shall arrange to purchase additional items for such occasions.
- Any safety or sanitary problems should be immediately reported to the House Director. Other issues and problems related
to chapter housing should follow the chain of command:
- House Manager
- Chapter President & House Director
- House Corporation Officer
- Kappa Delta's National Director of Chapter Housing
- Furniture, cookware, glassware and other House Corporation property SHALL NOT be
lent, rented or otherwise removed from the Chapter House.
- Furnishings or decor supplied to the sorority SHALL NOT be removed or
changed at any time without the written permission of House Corporation.
- Woodwork
(including closet doors), walls or ceilings SHALL NOT be painted or washed without written
permission of House Corporation.
- Open window blinds using levers ONLY.
To reduce wear & tear, do NOT pull blinds up.
- No shelving
attached to the walls is allowed.
- Do not
hang curtains due to insurance regulations regarding fire-retarding materials.
- Scotch
tape, oversize nails and thumbtacks SHALL NOT be used on walls or woodwork. It
is your responsibility to repair/caulk all holes you put in the walls in your room.
Use masking tape ONLY on walls (interior and exterior), woodwork and doors.
- Remove all posters and signs from the common areas at conclusion of sorority event.
- Extra hangers or hooks for clothing or for towels SHALL NOT be attached to walls or doors without written permission
from House Corporation.
- Collegiate will not be allowed to
move back in the Chapter House until outstanding balances owed to House Corporation are paid.
- The sorority's insurance does not cover the clothing or personal property of individual occupants.
- The
keeping of pets is prohibited.
- Please remember that House Corporation Officers and Committee Members are alumnae who volunteer their time so you may
have a place to live.
CHAPTER
RESIDENCE
- It is the chapters’ responsibility to complete occupancy
of the chapter house (32 members). Chapter will be assessed the full amount of
Room & Board Fees for each empty bed. It is up to the chapter to collect
money or obtain a member to live in to keep the house at full occupancy.
- Every member is required to live in the
chapter house for the minimum number of terms (2 terms) to keep the house filled to capacity.
- Any member moving
out of house without permission from the House Corporation is subject to terms of her contract and may be reported to the National Council for disciplinary action.
- The Chapter members shall be responsible for regular and good housekeeping.
Any personal belongings left in the common areas will be removed to the dumpster.
The House Corporation employees are not responsible to clean individual rooms.
- Do not leave personal items in the
showers or bathroom counters or they will be removed to the dumpster by the housekeeper.
- Do not hang, tape or string anything to the ceiling fans, as this causes them to become unbalanced and break.
- Do not hang any curtains or other such items in rooms per the Fire Marshall.
- Do not hang any shelving on bedroom walls.
- The House Manager will assign house duties to all members living in the house. The Chapter will levy fines on the members
who do not complete their house duties.
- All furniture is inventoried per that room. Do NOT move furniture (including
bedrooms) to another room. Missing or damaged items will be charged to the collegiates
from that room, above and beyond any security deposit.
- All rooms are furnished. Do not bring any of your
own furniture. Should the need arise for additional furniture items, please contact
House Corp.
HOUSE CLOSINGS
· A schedule will be posted in the back hall in advance of breaks: Thanksgiving,
winter and spring break and house closing in the summer.
· Collegiate who are
not out of the house at the scheduled closing times will be fined $25.00, plus $1.00 for every minute they are in the house
after the stated closing time.
- At the end of each semester, collegiate moving out must check out with the House Director; the House Director
will check the room with the collegiate present. Any collegiates that do not
check out with the House Director will not receive a deposit refund.
- At the
end of the academic year, any personal belongings left in the house will be discarded and charged to the collegiate.
- Any
personal belongings left in the common areas AT ANY TIME may be removed and charged to the live-in members. Please keep the
common areas clutter free.
- Any
missing or damaged items may be charged to ALL members of the sorority.
- Please read the Move Out Instruction in detail provided prior to summer break.
No storage is allowed in the chapter house over summer break.
HOUSE DIRECTOR
- A House Director’s primary function
is to provide a safe, enjoyable, home-like environment for chapter members. The
House Director will assist the Chapter in every possible way to promote a harmonious living experience. Responsibilities include:
- Managing the facility for the House Corporation; supervise the paid employees
(cook, housekeeper, hashers, maintenance and gardeners). Oversees the payroll
and approves bills for payments. She checks all residents in and out of the house, issues keys, plans and schedules all maintenance, assists
the chef and residents with menu planning, and helps the chapter with special requirements for planned events.
- The
Chapter shall inform the House Director of all events to be help on site at least two (2) weeks in advance.
