held a welcome back dinner and fire drill. Instead of the ordinary evacuation drill, the girls got a big surprise!

A fire drill at S.D.S.U. took one sorority by surprise on
Monday. Firefighters actually showed up to the Kappa Delta Sorority house to teach the young women the importance of fire
safety.
The women learned about escape tips, highly flammable materials and how
to properly use a fire extinguisher. "We don't want them behind the eight ball, not know what to do in the event that something
did happen to their sorority house," said Captain Jim Trosper, with the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
The women say the unexpected visit was more helpful then watching an old
fire safety video. "It's pretty intense. obviously I'm going to remember this now," said Kendall Randolph, a Kappa Delta member.
Two years ago a fire damaged the Alpha Chi Omega house at S.D.S.U. Investigators
say candles ignited some drapes in an upstairs bedroom. That's why firefighters wanted to make the surprise visit to take
the girls off guard.
Firefighters say candles and cooking mishaps are the leading cause of fires
in sororities and fraternities across the country. Candles are now banned in the houses at S.D.S.U. and sororities have experienced
cooks to prepare their meals.
Fox 6 Reporter Eric Collins has more on the fire drill that made one sorority
think twice about fire safety.
